Clear Vision Ahead: How Lifestyle Affects Vision Quality and Eye Health

A cigarette in one hand, a beer in the other - sound familiar?

If so, it's worth being aware of how a lifestyle that includes drinking and smoking

affects everything related to your vision quality and overall health.

Because in the end, your beautiful eyes pay a heavy price for these pleasures.

Let's talk about alcohol.

Yes, it reduces stress, but it also reduces your vision quality. And sure, after a few glasses of wine everything looks better, but in the long run? Not so much.

Alcohol impairs concentration ability, distance perception and balance, and can even cause drowsiness while driving. Additionally, alcohol reduces visual acuity, even to the point of blurred vision. So maybe think twice before that next chaser.

And what about smoking?

Beyond all the well-known damage, smoking also causes eye damage. Smoking dries out the eyes, impairs blood flow to the eye, and can be an accelerating factor for diseases like cataracts and retinal inflammation.

So if you thought that cigarette made you look cool, think again. It just makes you see less well.

So what can you do?

  • Quit smoking: This is the best thing you can do for your health. Can't quit? Even reducing is progress.
  • Reduce alcohol consumption: Make sure to drink in moderation, and always with water alongside the alcohol.
  • Eat a balanced diet: It's not just a cliché, carrots really are good for your eyes! Try to focus on fruits and vegetables, fish rich in omega-3, and generally eat as little processed food as possible, and more healthy options.
  • Maintain a healthy weight: Obesity can increase the risk of eye diseases like diabetes and high blood pressure, which can damage the eyes.

Exercise regularly: Sports and movement improve blood flow throughout the body, including to the eyes.

Eye exams: Don't neglect them and go get eye checkups to make sure everything is fine.

In short...

Remember that our eye health also depends on the daily choices you make. A little less alcohol, less smoking, and maybe a few more carrots (because yes, it really does help).

Because to look good, it's important to see well.
